Haven for Special People's Role
Haven for Special People will facilitate community activities to foster understanding, acceptance and social interaction for residents at Haven on Main, creating mutual support and community. This model is based on the success of Prairie Haus in New Glarus, WI, created and built by Home of our Own. Our common vision is to support residents to improve their quality of life and maximize their independence.

The model for Haven on Main, Prairie Haus, is described by one non-disabled resident as:
INCLUSIVE: We can all live in harmony together. My children are learning to be kind and thoughtful of others sharing our building.
MULTI-GENERATIONAL: We learn from one another with patience and understanding.
DIVERSE - WE ARE A COMMUNITY: The building design and activities, like bingo night, patio with grill and games, raised garden beds, for example, promote a shared experience for all residents regardless of age or ability.

Haven for Special People will not own or operate any rental housing. Instead, our focus is to advise in the development of an accessible building and then later facilitate social and quality of life initiatives benefiting the individuals living there.
